The Spiritual Benefits of Tidying and Cleaning in a Mindful and Caring Manner

Image
Tidying and cleaning always go hand in hand for me. I can't vacuum my floor if my apartment is so untidy that there are clothes, papers, notebooks, and books scattered everywhere on the floor. I'd have to tidy up first.  I did some tidying and cleaning today. I have to say, if you have a lot of negative traits related to disorganization on your black soul mirror, these days you have it good. Not only do you have Marie Kondo's book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up , you even have a Netflix show dedicated to her way of tidying up. Back when I was trying to eliminate disorganization-related negative traits from my black soul mirror, I didn't have any of those resources. For Marie Kondo, tidying is literal magic. She didn't just incorporate the word "magic" into the title of her book to make it sound catchy. As a result of her past involvement with Shinto, Marie Kondo has a spiritual view of tidying and, in her book, she explains how tidying a house can...

The Container of Awareness

Image
This post is about the first mental exercise of Step 1. If you're struggling with this exercise, you've come to the right place for information. But before you continue reading, know that although the first mental exercise is usually called "thought-observation," in this post I'm going to refer to it as "thought-awareness" instead. Don't let this confuse you; I'm not talking about a different exercise. Observing one's thoughts is just a way of saying to be aware of them. In fact, I personally think "thought-awareness" is a better name for the exercise because it doesn't give people the wrong impression that the exercise involves observing visual images flashing before your mind's eye. The only reason I continue to call it "thought-observation" is that this is the most popular name for the exercise. Anyhow, as anyone who is familiar with my writings knows, I consider thought-awareness to be of the utmost ...

On Helping Our Future Selves Make Progress Along the Magical Path

Image
As those who are called to the magical path, it is a good idea to make choices during our current incarnation to ensure that the circumstances of our life during our next incarnation will be conducive to making rapid progress along the magical path. This path, after all, is often one that is walked across multiple incarnations. In fact, I am aware of a few teachers who state that once you have stepped onto the magical path, you will always be on the magical path and there is no going back. I believe this to be true. So, here are three things I've been doing throughout my life to help ensure that the circumstances of my life during my next incarnation will be conducive to making rapid progress along the magical path.  1. Asking Mary to be my teacher during all of my future incarnations and to help me obtain the help and guidance I need during all of my future incarnations Long ago, whenever I prayed the Rosary, I would begin the Rosary with the following prayer.  Queen o...

The Lazy Son

Many years ago when I was a child, I remember eating personal pan pizzas with my father and my brother. My brother, for some reason, decided to eat his pizza by consuming the portion at the center and working his way outwards. At some point, the pizza took on a ring shape. When my father saw this, he said it reminded him of a fable, which he proceeded to share with us. I spent... nine minutes or so just now trying to find the fable online but wasn't able to, so here is my best attempt at telling it from memory. Once there was a mother who had a lazy son. One day, the mother needed to leave for a trip but knew that her son was way too lazy to cook for himself. Therefore, she baked a giant pie, cut a circular hole in the center, and draped it around his neck like a necklace. I imagine it looked a bit like one of those neck pillows some people bring onto airplanes. The idea was that whenever her son was hungry, he could dip his head downward and take a bit out of the pie he was wearin...

Sharing Diamonds: The Most Important Diamond

Image
William Mistele's essay "Visiting the Planetary Spheres," which can be found here , contains a section for each planet. Within the Saturn section, there is a subsection in which William describes his experience projecting his consciousness into the Sphere of Saturn on 11/3/06. This subsection, which is likely the most important diamond produced by William that I will discuss in this series, is quoted in full below.  It is interesting sitting here after projecting my mind into the sphere of Saturn. I am still aware of my body and surroundings. But my spirit, the higher aspect of my mind, is also within the sphere of Saturn. The part of my self that I am projecting immediately identifies with the Saturn vibration. The outlook is that of a guardian angel who views an incarnated person from the point of view that sees his past and future incarnations. It asks itself: What life circumstances can I create for this individual that will allow him to learn the most important le...

The Evolution of a Prayer

Image
I've been thinking a bit about a short prayer I've written and that has played an enormous role in my spiritual life for many years now. If you read my writings or correspond with me often, there's a good chance you've come across some version of this prayer before. In this post, I thought I'd share the evolution of this prayer through its various versions. The oldest version of the prayer is as follows.  Lord God Almighty, Creator and Maker of Heaven and Earth, please give me wisdom and understanding, please help me become more compassionate, and please help me become a magician. Amen.  I came up with this version of the prayer near the very beginning of my magical training and used it for a long time. Sometimes, I still share this version of the prayer with those who are comfortable referring to God as the Creator, which many people are. As for me, at some point I read in Daskalos's book The Esoteric Teachings that nothing is ever created, and that everythi...

Sharing Diamonds: Spiritual Hints from Sa, Part II

Image
During the conversation between William Mistele and Sa, Sa discusses how she might attempt to halt the advancement of an aspiring magician who has an appetite for lovers and is lucky in love. While discussing this subject, she makes the following statement, which is a diamond. Obviously, I give him too much love or too many lovers. Too much of a good thing and you lose your harmony. It takes a severity to master magic and a person who is satiated with love? No self discipline. You have heard the song, “Loving her was easier than anything I’ll ever do again.” Yah, it is I who give those feelings so soft and tender, feelings never felt before, and then magic just gets thrown right out the door.  Those who aren't lucky in love may think that this diamond isn't relevant to them, but this diamond isn't about having too many lovers. It's about having too much of a good thing. The good thing could be lovers, but it could also be something else, like tasty food. ...
